In most other forms of Cheng style Ba Gua there are three forms. The first one is about fixed postures, the second one about body changes and the third form are the 8 animals. In Sun style Ba Gua these are combined into one form. Hence we have:
- Dan Huan Zhang – Single Change Palm
- Shuang Huan Zhang – Double Change Palm
- Qian Gua Shi Xing Cha Zi Zhang – Heaven trigram Lion form Crossing self palm (also called lifting spear, upholding heaven etc.)
- Kun Gua Ling Xing Zhuan Shen Zhang – Earth trigram Unicorn form Turning body palm
- Kan Gua She Xing Shun Shi Zhang – Water trigram Snake form Smoothly following palm
- Li Gua Yao Xing Fan Shen Zhang – Fire trigram Hawk form Overturning palm
- Zhen Gua Long Xing Ping Tuo Zhang – Thunder trigram Dragon form Flat lifting palm
- Gen Gua Xiong Xing Bei Shen Zhang – Mountain trigram Bear form Behind the back palm
- Xun Gua Feng Xing Hui Shen Zhang – Wind trigram Phoenix form Revolving body palm (also called embracing the ball palm)
- Dui Gua Hou Xing Shuang Bao Zhang – Lake trigram Monkey form double embracing palm
There are 3 ways to practice these 10 forms. Ding Bu (fixed step), Lian Huan (Linked, flowing step), and You Shen (Swimming body, a.ka. changing palms).
Here is a video of the fixed step version:
Here is a video of one of the ways to practice it in the linked fashion:
Som lineages of Sun Style Bagua have additional practice methods e.g a separate form for only fixed postures, a form of constantly moving, 64 palm form etc. Although the 10 forms are enough, sometimes it is useful to concentrate on one particular aspect.
